TWO-WAY SCIENCE WORKSHOP
Showcasing a Whole School Approach in Physical Science
Two Way Science supports integrated learning programs connecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural knowledges with Western science and the Western Australian curriculum
In this workshop an Aboriginal educator and the coordinator of the Two Way Science program at Coolbinia Primary School will jointly showcase classroom examples of Two-Way Science in operation in the Physical Sciences. Attendees will be invited to participate in science elaboration activities with the Aboriginal educator, such as dancing (Year 1) and using fire sticks (Years 3). Join us for an enlightening session that will illustrate a whole school approach to Two-Way Science

Hear about the transformative educational power of sharing Noongar language through song. Kobi is a 28 year old Bibbulmun Noongar man who was born and raised in Perth. While working at the UWA Centre of Social Impact and Propel Youth Arts WA, Kobi spends his spare time playing music, being involved in various music projects such as Koorlong, Koondarm, Madjitil Moorna and Endeavourous – projects that earned him the 2018 Perth NAIDOC Youth of the Year award.

TWO-WAY SCIENCE WORKSHOP AT CREEC: CANNING RIVER ECO EDUCATION CENTRE, Tuesday 30 Aug 3.45-5.00pm
Two-Way Science is an Integrated learning approach that connects Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges with Western science methodologies. It promotes Indigenous leadership and fosters partnerships between schools and communities. The Department of Education is conducting a Two-Way Science Pilot Program (2021-2022) and Coolbinia Primary School is one of the participating metropolitan schools. Elaine will share Coolbinia’s experience as a Two-Way Science school and illustrate how this approach can work in a metropolitan context.

This Reconciliation Week 2022 we honour the spirit of Noongar Elder Doolan-Leisha Eatts*.
Fittingly the theme for 2022 is “Be Brave. Make Change”. It is a challenge to all of us —to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians.
We will gather to acknowledge and share stories and a history of place and of our
time, as a basis for exploring pathways forward. Activity will include a smoking
ceremony and walking the unique Reconciliation Sea of Hands Labyrinth.
*A widely respected and leading Whadjuk, Ballardong Noongar Elder who advocated strongly for reconciliation, Doolann Leisha Eatts was also a writer, storyteller and teacher of Noongar language.

on the evening of Thursday May 5th from
7pm till 8.30pm.
Friends of Oxfam (WA) jointly with One World Centre are holding a pre-election event on the evening of Thursday May 5th. This is a free event which will be held on zoom from 7pm till 8.30pm. It will be a state-wide event.
At this critical time for the planet, and for the global population, we need politicians to think beyond our national borders.
Join with Senator Dorinda Cox from the Greens, Patrick Gorman MP from the ALP, Kate Chaney Independent Voices for Curtin and a Liberal candidate yet to be confirmed for this important discussion.
It is envisaged that candidates will address issues such as international cooperation, climate change, trade, refugee policy, promoting human rights and importantly Australia’s response to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The event will be moderated by Martin Drum, Senior Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at the University of Notre Dame. Plenty of time will be given to an audience Q&A session.

As in 2019 and 2021, the workshop will draw inspiration and fun from time together in the forest, and around the fire. It will include informed discussion, facilitated reflections, activities, and opportunities to share stories connecting international development experiences with individual reflection, and building on and initiating collaborative, local initiatives. What are your biggest challenges, inspirations, plans and activities for connecting global realities and experience with local education and action while maintaining and inspiring hope, connections and momentum for change?!
Dwellingup’s beautiful forest, 1.5 hours from Perth, allows reconnection with nature and each other under the universal framework of Agenda 2030 and the SDG’s.
COST: $260 waged $160 volunteers/unwaged covering workshop, simple accommodation at Nanga Bush Camp, and meals.
